Dr. Betsy Winga is VP/CMIO Medical Informatics at Advocate Aurora Health with a primary focus in virtual health and ambulatory medicine. She has had a significant role in the development and implementation of the system virtual health efforts and works with ambulatory physician leadership to improve use and engagement with their electronic medical record. A primary success occurred in March 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic. At that time, the virtual health program at AAH was in a pilot form, and under Dr. Winga’s direction, was rolled out to the entire organization (5000+ clinicians in addition to multiple other departments) in a rapid fashion. Within the first two months of go-live, the system completed more than 200,000 virtual visits by more than 4000 unique providers.
In addition to her informatics position, Dr. Winga continues to practice clinical medicine as an ob/gyn. She has been with AHCMG since 2005 as a full time physician, and during that time served in multiple leadership roles including chair of the Peer Review Committee for AMCMC, Vice President and member of the Medical Executive Committee for AMCMC, member of the Manitowoc County Management Committee, and chair of the Women’s Health Preventative Health Council. During this time, she also served on several informatics governance counsels and participated in multiple focus groups. Outside of work, she also served as President of the Lincoln Park Zoological Society and board member of NEW Montessori Charter School.
Dr. Winga received her BS in Zoology at Iowa State University and completed medical school at University of Iowa and an Ob/Gyn residency in Grand Rapids, MI. She is currently working toward her MBA through West Texas A&M with an expected graduation date of August 2021. She is board certified in Ob/Gyn and will sit for the Clinical Informatics boards in late 2021. She is a certified Epic Physician Builder, with additional certifications in analytics, orders, and questionnaires.
